Merlin: Iris Announces New Family of Radio Power Adapters

Iris Technology is introducing a new line of radio power adapters (RPA) second quarter 2010. These revolutionary RPAs fit flush between the radio and battery and allow users to power the radio, charge the battery(ies), and distribute power to auxiliary devices. The first in this family, the Merlin-3 for the AN/PRC-117G radio offers a comprehensive power system for the radio, exports up to 100 W for auxiliary accessories, has a 97% efficiency rate, and operates with a variety of AC or DC power sources. The Merlin-3 companion, the Merlin-2, features parallel technology and is compatible with the AN/PRC-117F, AN/PRC-138, AN/PRC-150, and AN/PSC-5D radios. Both the Merlin-2 and Merlin-3 configure automatically and feature hot-swap capability and interoperability with SPACES. The Merlin RPA line is available through GSA.

GREEN

Iris Technology is partnering with nationally recognized HDT Engineered Technologies on a USMC contract for solar power distribution equipment. Ground Renewable Expeditionary Energy Network (GREEN) goes beyond the SPACES program for the Marine Corps; it extends the proven man-portable SPACES solar power capability from 300 W to 3 kW. GREEN increases SPACES applicability from supporting a single warfighter to powering a base camp "green" power solution."

SPACES

Iris Technology continues to expand its family of military products with the announcement of its new Solar Portable Alternative Communications Energy System (SPACES). This innovative family of mobile solar power and power distribution products delivers portable power to charge batteries, operate communications equipment, and run small electronic accessories in remote and tactical environments.  SPACES is the first USMC Expeditionary Solar Power Program and will be fielded to Marines beginning summer of 2010.
