Iris Technology Unveils New Radio Power Slice

01/03/12

Iris Technology’s compact Merlin-2 radio power adapter uses “slice technology” to serve as
an uninterruptible power source for radio systems, fitting between the radio and the existing
battery. These plug-and-play slices, which attach without modification or tools and maintain
the environmental integrity of the radio, can also be used to power laptops, speakers and other
equipment in the field.

Irvine. CA (PRWEB) January 03, 2012 -- Iris Technology Corporation, a defense contractor specializing in
tactical power systems and spacecraft hardware, is pleased to introduce a new addition to its Merlin family of
radio power adapters, the Merlin-2. Highly interoperable with currently fielded equipment, the Merlin-2 is a
dual-battery slice for use with heritage AN/PRC-117F, AN/PRC-138, AN/PRC-150, and AN/PSC-5D radios.

The Merlin-2’s primary function is to serve as an uninterruptible power source (UPS) for the radio system, and
its “hot swap” feature allows battery change-out and maintenance without radio interruption or crypto-fill loss.
The Merlin-2 supports various rechargeable chemistries while performing a continuous rebalancing to increase
useable energy.

The Merlin-2 provides significant auxiliary power to run laptops, speakers, and other accessories. Circuitry and
software needed to operate from solar panels is built-in and the device is fully interoperable with the successful
Solar Power Alternative Communications Energy System (SPACES).

Unlike other adapters, which are designed to completely replace the radio battery, all Merlin adapters use “slice
technology” to fit between the radio and the existing battery. These slices are plug-and-play, attach without
modification or tools, and maintain the environmental integrity of the radio. The Merlin adapters are compact
and rugged, allowing the mating radios to be used in all conditions and in vehicle mounts and radio racks.
