Iris Technology Corporation (“Iris” or the “Company”), a provider of radiation-hardened, space-qualified TRL 9 electronics for mission-critical national security space payloads, as well as rugged power management solutions for tactical military radio applications, today announced the completion of a strategic investment from OceanSound Partners (“OceanSound”), a private equity firm that invests in technology and technology-enabled services companies serving aerospace, defense, government, and highly regulated end markets. Ed O’Rourke, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Iris, has retained a significant ownership interest and will continue to lead the Company alongside the existing management team.

Founded in 1986 and headquartered in Irvine, California, Iris designs and manufactures electronics that power, condition, and control sensing payloads and subsystems in orbit. The Company’s space portfolio includes cryocooler control electronics, focal plane interface electronics, and heater control cards, which support missile warning, missile tracking, and electro-optical and infrared surveillance missions, with flight heritage across national security, civil, and science programs. Iris supplies space prime contractors and payload integrators including BAE Systems, General Atomics, Leidos, Leonardo DRS, and Northrop Grumman. The Company’s tactical portfolio offerings include radio power and data adapters, man-portable power management and distribution systems, and vehicle-mounted inverters that reduce battery weight, extend mission duration, and keep radios and mission equipment running in the field.

“Iris develops critical electronics that enable satellites to perform their pivotal role as part of Golden Dome for America,” said Joe Benavides, CEO and Founder of OceanSound. “Missile warning and missile tracking are the most durable priorities in national security space, and the move to proliferated low Earth orbit architectures is driving sustained demand for qualified, radiation-hardened electronics. Iris has earned its market position through a proven flight heritage that capital alone cannot replicate. We are proud to partner with Ed and the entire Iris team.”

With OceanSound’s support, Iris will continue to invest in its test and qualification capabilities, engineering, supply chain, and program management depth to shorten lead times and support production ramps, broaden its commercial reach with allied customers and payload manufacturers, and field new tactical power products aligned to Army and joint-force modernization requirements. Together, OceanSound and Iris intend to build a leading independent supplier of qualified electronics and mission-critical products for national security space, extending the Company’s product offerings across adjacent systems through both product development and acquisition. Iris will remain an independent, partner-neutral supplier, serving all payload integrators on equal terms.

“Almost every sensing payload that flies depends on electronics like ours, and those missions do not get second chances,” said O’Rourke. “What makes Iris different is that our hardware has already flown, and that kind of heritage is earned in orbit rather than in a lab. OceanSound, a premier investor in aerospace and defense technology companies, understood Iris’ differentiation from our first conversation, and together we can widen the set of products we put on these missions.”

“The qualified electronics enabling national security space payloads are essential, hard to replicate, and supplied today by a limited number of specialized companies,” said Ted Shanahan, Partner at OceanSound. “Iris has the legacy, program positions, and engineering depth to grow well beyond its current scale. We intend to build Iris into a leading independent provider in this category.”
